This Saturday on Oct. 1st in Fletcher, NC, Blackeye Promotions will be holding a very special event. Blackeye 5- Breast Cancer Beatdown will feature a stacked card compromising mainly of pro female fighters with proceeds going to charity (It Ain’t Chemo) to help in the fight against breast cancer. This is a disease that has affected far too many and a cure can be found. Two fighters from Florida are scheduled to appear on the pro card and anything the Florida MMA community can do to donate in anyway is greatly appreciated. If you’re unable to attend in person, the card will be streamed live online at www.gfl.tv. To learn more about It Ain’t Chemo, please check out their website, itaintchemo.org. They help men, women and children battle all types of cancer in the United States. Blackeye Promotions website is here.
The Florida fighters signed to fight are Angelica Brotherton and Ediene “India” Gomes. Brotherton, fighting out of Jacksonville with Chameleon MMA< is scheduled to face Ashely Cummings in a 115lb match up. Gomes, who fights out of Miami for American Top Team, is matched up against Ashley Sanchez in the featherweight (145lb) division. Angelica fought in Blackeye 4 and suffered an armbar submission in the 3rd round to Glena Avila. India also fought in Blackeye 4 and came away with an impressive ankle lock submission of Kat Alendal at just 42 seconds of the first round.
Some top names in the women's division will also be there. Popular fighter and also top 10 ranked Roxanne "The Happy Warrior" Modafferi will be coming all the way from Japan to face Barb Honchak at 125lbs. This will be Roxanne's third fight at 125 since previously fighting at 135. Former Strikeforce 135lb champion Marloes Coenen is also set to appear. She was quickly signed by Blackeye after Zuffa released her and several other Golden Glory fighters from Strikeforce. Although she isn't fighting, she will be helping to promote this fight and Blackeye. Expect to see around Jessica "JAG" Aguilar (the popular American Top Team & Bellator fighter) Elaina "Beef" Maxwell, and Sarah D'Alelio. The Lybarger Twins, Jocelyn & Jillian, will be there as spokeswomen for It Ain't Chemo. Check out their YouTube video below. Other names that will be there include MMA fighter Ryan Couture (he's coming off a win from last friday's Strikeforce Challengers card), pinup model Masuimi Max, MMA ring girl Stephanie Ann Cook, and USA Hockey National champion Thomas Brown. It is important to mention that Blackeye will be honoring Mighty Mia Hayes for her courageous battle against breast cancer. Mia is not only a wife and mother, but she is a MMA fighter as well, winning three amateur fights while battling breast cancer.
Blackeye has also announced they are selling t-shirts for this event. Proceeds from the shirt sales will go to It Ain't Chemo. Click on the link for the shirt you are interested in:
